11 sea-facing bungalows in Alibaug partially demolished

The Raigad District administration had filed FIRs against 130 such properties, but has so far managed to demolish only 11as owners of the remaining homes got a stay order. The Raigad District administration demolished 11 weekend homes in and around Alibaug earlier this week, months after at least 150 weekend homes came under a cloud of violation of the Coastal Regulation Zone (CRZ) rules. The district administration had registered first information reports (FIR) against 130 weekend homes, but managed to demolish only 11 as the owners of the remaining bungalows managed to get stay order from the court.

An official from the Raigad District administration said that demolitions were carried out in Kashid, Nandgaon, Barshiv and Nagaon in the Alibaug division.

Mumbai Mirror had reported in September last year that several of Mumbai`s rich and famous who own beach-facing bungalows in Alibaug and Murud were in a quandary after the district administration of Alibaug issued notices to around 1,000 owners of beach-front cottages and sprawling homes (`City`s swish set fret over fate of weekend retreats`, MM, September 27, 2015). The notices said the second homes of Mumbai`s well-heeled had come up by flouting laws governing CRZ rules and the Maharashtra Regional Town Planning Act.

Alibaug and Murud are among the favourite weekend getaways for business honchos from the city. It take about halfan-hour to reach these places by a speedboat.
